We like this photo of us (from on tour in Seattle earlier this year) because we look like women who need to talk — and we do, and we will! Stay tuned for WE NEED TO TALK, a weekly Grownup Lady Story Company podcast coming your way starting later this summer!

Earlier this month, Rebecca had the pleasure of presenting at Pecha Kucha Austin #20 on the Rooftop of the Contemporary Austin. (Her talk begins at 8:25.) In under seven minutes, with the help of 20 images, she explains how she became a storyteller. (Spoiler alert: it has everything to do with Annie La Ganga!)

Our May 31, 2014, Storytelling Showcase — the culmination of our first four-week storytelling workshop — featured Ben Steinbauer, Missy Dugan, Beverly Voss, and Chelsea Donahue and pretty much blew the roof off the joint. Notable for an array of wonderful stories that really ran the entertainment gamut (and for a great crowd that seemed to happily endure the bit-too-humid conditions). Oh and did we mention they received a standing ovation!?! Thank you, audience and participants! Y’all made it a great party. We sure loved every minute of it. And thank you Robert Melton for these lovely photos.

Would love to take your workshop...but not free for 4 weeks until August...

A

We’ll likely have a workshop session in August (and September!). Let us know how to reach you and we’ll put you on the tentative roster for August. Thanks for your interest!

The last leg of The Parallel Apartments Tour took us from Tulsa to Memphis, and wow we loved Memphis! The smart and lovely folks of Crosstown Arts and The Booksellers at Laurelwood were our hosts, the event space was inspiring, and we were honored to be joined onstage by guest storyteller Josh Campbell of the Spillit storytelling group. This is a storytelling town, y’all! All that, plus we were treated to a yummy dinner at the Beauty Shop restaurant. AND we also had the best breakfast of our lives at Brother Juniper’s. Maybe we should all move to Memphis? Just an idea. From Memphis we traveled to Oxford, Mississippi, for a live taping of the hugely entertaining Thacker Mountain Radio show. (We also took a side trip to the infamous Graceland Too, an Elvis hoarder’s haven.) Next up was the Lemuria Bookstore in Jackson, a place chock-full of perhaps the world’s most intelligent and enthusiastic employees, really sweet people. Next was New Orleans and the Tennessee Williams Festival. And finally, the wonderful Brazos Bookstore in Houston, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, yay! Now we’re back in Austin, where we’re planning upcoming house concerts and other special events. Last week The Parallel Apartments Tour stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a special McSweeney’s event. Thanks to an amazing outfit called Booksmart Tulsa, we were treated to a stay at an historic downtown hotel and performed in the one-of-a-kind setting of 108 Contemporary – inside a gorgeous insect installation called “Beauty Unseen” (by artists Jennifer Angus and Bob Sober). Tomorrow we begin the second leg of The Parallel Apartments Tour! The Grownup Ladies will be traveling with the smart and charming novelist Bill Cotter to events in Tulsa, Memphis, Oxford, Jackson, New Orleans, and Houston. Hope to see you at one of those places? (Photo by Robert Melton!)

Last night The Parallel Apartments Tour stopped right here in our hometown of Austin, Texas, at the fabulous and amazing BookPeople! Wow did they ever show us a good time. We loved every single minute of this event, and the crowd was filled with old friends and new faces plus a good many of the justifiably proud Cotter clan. And Annie made and decorated cookies inspired by the book’s gorgeous cover. So much fun! The Ladies had a fabulous time performing with Bill Cotter on the first leg of The Parallel Apartments Tour, with shows in Seattle and Portland! We’re providing audiences with all the glamour and entertainment of a regular author-type event, but with the added squalor and hilarity of confessional storytelling. Next up: Austin! Followed by cities like Tulsa, Memphis, New Orleans, Oxford, Houston… and more! Hope to see you at one of our stops. Annie performed as part of a special one-night-only, knock-em-out Valentine’s Day show with the unstoppable folks at Portland Story Theater last week. What a wonderful audience! We love Portland and can’t wait for our next trip to the PNW.

The Grownup Ladies are accompanying Bill Cotter on a book-and-performance tour to promote his wonderful new novel, The Parallel Apartments! We will be hitting the road this February and March and have at least 10 stops scheduled so far. Here’s a short video we made to explain our idea! And we hope you’ll consider supporting the Kickstarter campaign we set up to help fund this experimental trip. Thank you and hope to see you all soon!

Rebecca’s show is part of a lovely feature in today’s Austin Chronicle, complete with Robert Melton's boudoir portrait and a mention of The Grownup Lady Story Company!
